How to Build an Ethernet Backhaul Using Two EasyMesh Routers

Building a robust and efficient EasyMesh network with Ethernet Backhaul is a great way to enhance your home Wi-Fi experience. In this article, we will guide you through the process of setting up an Ethernet Backhaul using two EasyMesh routers.

Note: Ethernet Backhaul only works when both your main router and satellite router support EasyMesh Ethernet backhaul.

There are two scenarios you may encounter when attempting to use EasyMesh via Ethernet backhaul.

Scenario 1: Changing wireless backhaul to Ethernet backhaul:

If both the main router and satellite router are already configured in an EasyMesh network, and the firmware that supports the Ethernet backhaul feature has been installed, you can directly connect an Ethernet cable to any of the main router’s LAN ports to any Ethernet port of the satellite unit. 

Scenario 2: Adding a new satellite router to an EasyMesh network:

When adding a new satellite router do not configure anything on the router and instead leave it in its factory default settings. If it was already configured before, reset it to its factory default settings.

Then connect an Ethernet cable to any of the main router’s LAN ports to any Ethernet port of the satellite unit. 

Notes:

1. When adding a new node to an EasyMesh network, please use the satellite router’s LAN port as the backhaul port. After the EasyMesh connection is built, all of the ports on the satellite router (WAN, LAN, WAN/LAN) can be used for Ethernet backhaul.

2. If the Ethernet backhaul is built successfully, the wireless backhaul will disconnect automatically and only reconnect if the Ethernet backhaul is disconnected for some reason.  

How to confirm whether Ethernet Backhaul is working or not?

Log into the web interface of the main router and go to EasyMesh page.  Here you can see the connection of each satellite device. If you see an Ethernet icon then the link is using Ethernet Backhaul.

If it still shows a wireless icon, please check if the Ethernet cable is functioning and connected correctly or not.
