PROJECT OVERVIEW

Hunts Kart Racing Club (HKRC), also known as Kimbolton Kart Circuit, is a long established MSUK affiliated outdoor karting venue located in Cambridgeshire, UK. Founded in 1959, the circuit features a challenging 1km asphalt track and regularly hosts club race meetings, practice sessions, and nationally recognized events including the British Kart Championship and Ultimate Kart Championship.

The venue operates with extensive outdoor facilities, including multiple marshal posts positioned around the circuit, spectator areas, paddock facilities, and a central race control building. As with all motorsport environments, safety, visibility, and accurate race control are essential to the smooth running of every event.

REDUCED CABLING

Less trenching and lower infrastructure cost

  • Challenge

As a large outdoor karting circuit, HKRC required reliable, low‑latency connectivity to support live CCTV feeds, real-time race monitoring and data backhaul to race control. Wireless coverage across the site was inconsistent with unstable links between remote marshal posts and the main control building. This resulted in unreliable video feeds, and increased operational pressure during race events.

  • Solution

ARC designed and deployed a tailored wireless backhaul network using Omada Bridge Kits purpose-built for long-range outdoor connectivity. The solution provided stable, high-throughput wireless links from multiple marshal posts back to the race control building, supporting live 4K CCTV streams with minimal latency.

  • Result

Hunts Kart Racing Club now benefits from consistent, uninterrupted live video feeds and reliable data connectivity across the entire circuit. Race officials have real-time visibility of on-track activity, without dropouts and the safety oversight has been significantly improved. The solution delivers enterprise grade performance at a price point suited for the customer.

Connectivity Challenges in a Large Outdoor Circuit

"Outdoor tracks are particularly demanding environments" explains Ralph Ellingham MD, ARC LTD. "You're dealing with long distances, exposure to the elements and the need to transmit live video without delays"

Previous connectivity solutions relied on a non-specialist wireless equipment that struggled with range, stability and weather resistance. Signal dropouts affected live CCTV feeds.

  • Designing for Performance,
    Reliability and Flexibility

ARC AV conducted a detailed site survey to identify optimal line of sight paths from five strategic locations around the circuit back to the race control building. A point-to-multipoint topology was designed using Omada EAP215 Bridge Kits to wirelessly transmit 11 simultaneous CCTV streams.

Environmental factors such as track infrastructure, trees, mounting locations and UK weather conditions were carefully considered. The EAP215's directional antennas, IP65-rated enclosure and lightning protection ensured reliable operation in harsh outdoor conditions.

To address power limitations at remote marshal posts, solar-powered battery systems paired with 12V PoE switches were deployed eliminating the need for trenching cables while maintaining full operational reliability.

    Smooth Installation and Centralised Management

Installation was efficient and straightforward. Each of the 18 marshal posts and strategic positions was equipped with two 4K CCTV cameras with five remote locations powered entirely via solar and battery systems.

Wireless bridge links routed live video feeds back to race control where signals were aggregated through an Omada 24-port PoE switch into the Network Video Recorder (NVR). Omada's auto-pairing functionality and intuitive controller interface made deployment and fine-tuning quick and precise.

  • Supporting Mission Critical Race Operations

The new wireless network now underpins Hunts Kart Racing Club's race‑day operations. Live CCTV coverage allows officials to monitor incidents instantly.

With near‑zero packet loss and consistently high throughput, the system delivers dependable performance even during busy championship events.
