How to Set Up a Deco IoT Network for Your Smart Home

When You Set Up
Last updated: May 7, 2026

The Deco IoT network is a dedicated Wi-Fi network designed specifically for smart home devices like cameras, smart lights, and sensors. Setting up a separate TP-Link IoT network keeps those devices isolated from your main network, improving their connection stability and adding a layer of security for your primary devices like laptops and phones. Setup is done through the Deco app on iOS or Android. You can configure the network name, password, security protocol, and Wi-Fi band.

Key Takeaways

  • The Deco IoT network is a dedicated Wi-Fi network for smart home devices like cameras, smart lights, and sensors, keeping them separate from your main network.
  • Separating IoT devices onto their own network improves connection stability for those devices and adds a layer of security by isolating them from your primary devices.
  • To set up an IoT network, open the Deco app and go to More > IoT Network, then enable it and set a network name and password.
  • You can choose a security protocol for the IoT network. Selecting None means no password is required to join.
  • You can also select which Wi-Fi band (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz) the IoT network uses via the Bands setting.

What Is a Deco IoT Network?

An Internet of Things (IoT) network is a separate Wi-Fi network dedicated to smart home devices like cameras, smart lights, and sensors. Instead of connecting these devices to the same network as your laptops and phones, the IoT network keeps them on their own isolated connection. This makes it easier to manage your smart home devices together while keeping your primary network unaffected.

Why Set Up a Dedicated IoT Network?

There are two main benefits to running a dedicated deco iot network. First, it improves the stability of your IoT devices' connections by reducing congestion on your main network. Second, it enhances security by isolating smart home devices from the network where your more sensitive devices, like computers and phones, connect. If an IoT device is ever compromised, it cannot directly reach your primary devices.

How to Set Up Your Deco IoT Network

Follow the steps below to set up an IoT network in the Deco app (iOS or Android).

Note:

  • Features may vary from different Deco models.
  • The steps may vary depending on your device's operating system. Here, we use the iOS system as an example.

Step 1. Open the Deco app and go to More > IoT Network.
