Objective

This article provides solutions for troubleshooting when the Omada Hardware Controller does not detect your external USB drive.

Requirements

  • OC200v1/v2, OC300v1, OC400v1, C5300v1
  • USB drive

Introduction

Before troubleshooting, ensure the USB drive works properly when connected directly to a computer.

Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1. Check the USB drive format type

Currently, the Hardware Controller supports USB hard drives in NTFS and FAT32 formats but not ExFAT format. If your USB drive is in an unsupported format, format it to a supported one or replace the USB drive.

Step 2. Check USB drive encryption

If you use a hardware-encrypted USB drive, decrypt it and try again.

Step 3. Check the USB drive partition

If your USB drive partition is abnormal, the Hardware Controller will not detect it. Please format it or replace the USB drive.

If you are using a brand-new USB drive without partitions, the Hardware Controller will not detect it. Please create partitions on it or replace the USB drive.

Step 4. Check if the USB drive requires an additional power adapter

Usually, the Hardware Controller can power up the USB drive. An additional power adapter is needed for some USB drives.

If your USB drive requires more power than the output current of the USB Port (Power supply standard: OC200v1/OC200v2: 5V/1A; OC300v1/OC400v1/C5300v1: 5V/2A) but does not have an additional power adapter, the drive will not work properly with the Hardware Controller.

If the problem persists, contact TP-Link Support and provide your USB drive model and format for troubleshooting.

Conclusion

You have successfully resolved the USB detection issue on your Omada Hardware Controller.
