This article introduces how to configure SSID rate limit and client rate limit to allocate the bandwidth of the wireless network on Omada Controller.
- Omada Controller (software Controller / hardware Controller / CBC, v5.9 and above)
- Omada EAP
In some cases, you may want to limit the internet access rate of wireless clients connected to the device. There are three ways to limit the rate, SSID rate limit profile, client rate limit profile, and specific client rate limit.
- SSID Rate Limit Profile: to limit the total rate for all wireless clients connected to the SSID, with all clients sharing the available bandwidth. For example, if the SSID Rate Limit Profile is set to 100 Mbps, when only one client connects the SSID, its speed will not exceed 100 Mbps. If two clients connect, the total speed of both clients will not exceed 100 Mbps.
- Client Rate Limit Profile: to limit the rate of all wireless clients connected to the same SSID at the same rate . For example, if the Client Rate Limit Profile is set to 100 Mbps, when only one client connects to the SSID, its speed will not exceed 100 Mbps. If two clients connect, the speed of each client will not exceed 100 Mbps, and the combined speed of both clients will not exceed 200 Mbps.
- Specific Client Rate Limit: to limit the rate of one specific client.
This article takes EAP670 as an example to explain how to configure SSID & client rate limit.
SSID Rate Limit Profile Configuration
Step 1. Login Controller via web browser, go to Site Settings > Wireless Networks > WLAN > Advanced Settings. Here you can find the SSID Rate Limit Profile.
There are two methods to limit the rate, Custom and Create New Rate Limit Profile:
- Custom: Select Custom, set the downlink / uplink speed limit, and you can only use this configuration here.
- Create New Rate Limit Profile: Create a new profile, and you can choose it anytime when you want to limit the rate of wireless clients.
Step 2. Choose Custom or Create New Rate Limit Profile according to your need. In this example, choose Create New Rate Limit Profile and set the Profile Name and uplink / downlink rate limit thresholds on the popped-up page.
Apply the settings.
The profile you created can be viewed and edited in Settings > Profiles > Rate Limit.
Step 3. Go back to SSID Rate Limit Profile and choose the rate limit profile you created.
Apply the settings.
Client Rate Limit Profile Configuration
Step 1. Log in to the Controller via web browser, go to Site Settings > Wireless Networks > WLAN > Advanced Settings. Here you can find the Client Rate Limit Profile.
Step 3. Go back to Client Rate Limit Profile and choose the rate limit profile you created.
Apply the settings.
Specific Client Rate Limit Configuration
Step1. Go to Clients > Config, enable Rate Limit.
Step 3. Go back to Clients Config and choose the rate limit profile you created.
Apply the settings.
The above is the configuration guide for SSID & Client Rate Limit on Omada Controller.
What is the effect of configuring SSID Rate Limit and Client Rate Limit at the same time?
Re: The one with the smallest rate limit takes effect. For example, there are two clients, the Client Rate Limit is 60 Mbps, and the SSID Rate Limit is 100 Mbps. The rate of each client will not exceed 60 Mbps, and the total speed will not exceed 100 Mbps.
